Monday, Sept. 20 7:00 First meeting of the senior year
1. Senior Shirts will be available for sale within the next 3 weeks. The design is complete, the names have been added. Shirts will be offered for pre-sale shortly.
2. Prom: We are waiting for confirmation from SU for the date. The prom will be either May 21 or May 28 depending on another event being held at SU. We will know within the next few weeks. Alexis O'Leary has diligently pursued this contact with SU throughout the summer.
3. Discussion was heard concerning the price of prom tickets. Prices from previous years were discussed. The general consensus seemed to be that $20 - $25 would be an acceptable price. Price will be dependent on the outcome of the After Prom proposal.
4. Suggestions were taken for prom theme. Beginning on Monday, Sept. 27, seniors will be able to view the list at lunch and add suggestions. After Mr. Grudis has given approval to the list, voting should take place during lunch shifts from Tuesday, Oct. 5 through Thursday, Oct. 7. Themes suggested tonight:
  • Under the Sea
  • A Night in Paris
  • Bright Lights, Big City
  • Bollywood
  • Masquerade
  • Mardi Gras
  • Central Park
  • African Safari
  • Moulin Rouge
  • China Town
  • Under the Stars
  • Around the World
  • Travel the World (with a passport extension idea for after prom)
5. Considerable discussion was devoted to the idea of an After Prom Party. Many good suggestions were offered and the parents decided to form an exploratory committee.
6. Some discussion and explanation of Grand March was also heard. The different options available (Holloway Hall, Asbury United Methodist Church, etc) were explained. The rationale behind free grand march tickets was also explained.
7. It was suggested that this class have a class motto, song, flower, colors, etc. These would be voted on at some future point.
8. Parents in attendance agreed that Monday nights at 7:00 was a good time for a meeting. We will try to designate the third Monday of the month as the regular meeting, however the third Monday in October is not a school day for students, so the meeting will be held on Monday, October 11 instead (this also happens in Jan. and Feb.). Future meetings:
  • Oct. 11
  • Nov. 15
  • Jan. 10
  • Jan. 31
  • Feb. 28
  • Mar. 21
  • Apr. 18
  • May 9
  • May 16
9. The senior class gift was also discussed. The questions was, with a school as modern and wonderful as the new JMB, what could a class give? Mr. Grudis had an excellent idea with his suggestion of addressing the needs of the Memorial Garden. By the end of this school year, demolition should be completed and focus will turn to the entrance of the school. The Memorial Garden will be visible from the street and should be ready for some much needed attention.
